Outstanding Young Music Educator
Kim Bruguier:
Kim Bruguier is in her fifth year of teaching elementary music in the Mobridge-Pollock School District. She also directs the 5th grade band and a 4th and 5th grade choir. Originally from Mitchell, SD, she graduated from the University Of South Dakota in 2007 with a degree in Music Education. Mrs. Bruguier has done instrument drives for her school district and received over 35 new/used horns in the past 4 years, including a donation from the Mr. Hollands Opus Foundation. She is a MENC/GAMA certified classroom guitar instructor and is a member of The National Association for Music Education, South Dakota Music Educators' Association, Prairie Winds Orff, and National Association for the Education of Young Children. Mrs. Bruguier is a member of her local Johnson O'Malley board, is a Girl Scout troop leader and teaches piano, voice and guitar lessons. She and her husband Lee have two daughters: Madilyn and Amelia.
 
Overview
The SDMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator award is given in recognition of meritorious service and outstanding promise in music education. Nominees for this award should epitomize every facet of excellence in music teaching in South Dakota. The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor an SDMEA member for excellence in music education who has been teaching between three and seven years. More than one nominee may receive this award in a given year. Recipients of this prestigious award will be inducted at the SDMEA Music Educators Banquet during the All State Chorus/Orchestra concert weekend. The criteria for the award includes:
  1. The nominee must be an SDMEA member.
  2. The nominee must be actively teaching in South Dakota.
  3. The nominee must be in his/her third through seventh year of teaching.
