| In the fall of 2009, Dr. Bruce Ammann begins his 21st
year as Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Augustana
College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dr. Ammann also served
as Chair of the Music Department from 1993 through 1998
and again during the 2001-2002 school year. Dr. Ammann is
active as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the country.
He has directed all-state bands in Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado,
and Rhode Island. He has presented clinics at several state
music educators’ conventions along with presenting clinic
sessions at a CBDNA Regional Conference, a National MENC
Convention and at the Mid-West Band Clinic. He has directed
festival bands in Europe and has led the Augustana Band
on three successful tours of Asia. The most recent tour
was a 21-day, eight performance tour of six cities on mainland
China during January, 2007. Many performances were presented
to sold-out audiences.
Prior to his appointment at Augustana College, Dr. Ammann
served on the faculties of Arizona State University and
the University of Florida. He also taught for eight years
in the public schools of Arizona. Dr. Ammann holds the
Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting
from Arizona State University, the Master of Music degree
in Saxophone Performance and the Bachelor of Music Education
degree both from the University of Arizona.
In 1996, Dr. Ammann was elected into membership in the
American Bandmasters Association and in 2009, he was elected
to serve on their Board of Directors. In 1997, he was
selected to receive the Outstanding Bandmaster Award for
the state of South Dakota. In May 2001, Dr. Ammann was
chosen to receive the Vernon and Mildred Niebuhr Faculty
Excellence Award. This is the highest award presented
to an Augustana faculty member.
Dr. Ammann is a Past President of the South Dakota Music
Educators Association and he currently serves as one of
the principal conductors of the Dakota Wind Ensemble. |
